General Application Information

With this application, texts can be translated interactively and ad-hoc from one language to another. The texts can be typed, or copied via the clipboard.

More than 100 languages are supported.

Texts up to the BASF information protection class "confidential" may be translated (not: "strictly confidential").

Various providers such as Microsoft ("azure") or DeepL are used for translation. If several providers support the selected language combination and function, these can be selected.

The application can be used by all BASF employees or partners with a BASF workplace device and a BASF login account.
The costs for the translations and the operation of the application are covered by an IT levy; there is no personal evaluation or billing. The translated texts are also not stored.

Other functions include the generation of audio files with the translated spoken text (TTS, text-to-speech), as well as the possibility of translating complete files in standard formats such as docx, pptx, xlsx, pdf, while retaining most of the formatting.
In our experience, however, it is not guaranteed that the providers can process every document without errors or at all, and there are restrictions on file sizes and document formats depending on the provider.
